The David lab is actively looking for two talented individuals.
1. A PhD student or Post-doctoral researcher for a new NSF funded project "Using Deep Learning to Learn about the Deep Sea: Application of AI to Elucidate Drivers of Global Biogeochemical Cycles".
We are seeking an individual with a strong computational biology background eager to learn AI (for the PhD student) or a AI student eager to learn computational biology. More specifically:
- Background in computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence
- Strong coding skills (can be in R, Python, etc and be open to learning others!)
- Have exposure to tools such as: HuggingFace, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Scikit-learn, Numpy, Matplotlib, Git (Github), Software development for research
- Very interested in working on, and learning about, computational biology and working on topics related to the microbiome!
The postdoctoral individual would have to demonstrate a strong background in Artificial Intelligence and strong understanding in deep learning, and an interest in learning computational biology.
Ideally this position would start ASAP (hors cycle for graduate student) but could start next September if strongly preferred by the candidate. More on the project here.
2. The David lab is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in Microbial Ecology to work on a large USDA funded project the bee microbiome and European Foulbrood.
We aim to explore on the association of multiple environmental factors on Melisoccocus Plutonius, and the impact of commerical and tailored probiotics on the bee health and their microbiota. The candidate must have a strong microbial ecology background, experience with sequencing (16S and metagenome) analytics. Specifically the individual should have:
- background in microbial ecology and basic molecular biology
- coding skills in 16S analysis and metagenomics
- some biostatistic background
- eager to learn about bee physiology
- excited to work in a collaborative environment
Ideally the individual can do the library preparation, but a dry lab only individuals could be considered. The position is funded for 2.5 years. Some press on the project can be found here. We envision this position could start anytime between January and spring.
If you are interested and qualify for any of these two positions please email Dr. David directly ([email protected]) with a resume.
